New research from CV-Library has found that the number of staff who run a side hustle alongside their full-time job has gone up by 33.6%. The 1,100-strong survey of UK professionals has suggested that the increase could be to do with people being forced to stay at home due to furlough and the so-called ‘Pingdemic’. The research found that one in every ten staff now has a side hustle – a piece of work or a paid role in addition to their main job – with 46.3% of staff saying that they started their business in response to the coronavirus crisis. Lee Biggins, CEO and Founder of CV-Library, said that with so much uncertainty in the last 18 months, “it’s understandable that so many employees have looked for new ways to supplement their income”.
