The amount of response a job advert receives has increased due to the higher level of unemployment brought on by the pandemic. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the unemployment rate rose to five per cent in the latter part of 2020, meaning more than 1.7 million people are unemployed. This is the highest level the unemployment rate has reached since August 2016. One potential way to avoid inefficient use of talent acquistion teams – caught in a slurry of unsuitable CVs and unable to extricate themselves to more strategic or value-add tasks – is to rehire a former employee who has re-entered the job market. There are numerous advantages of doing this. Firstly, the employee knows the company, and has some experience of how to get the job done.
